It is approximately a 1 hour drive to Paphos to the east, Ayia Napa to the west and the Troodos mountains to the north. The Amathus area has undergone major road works during 2001. This is now all complete and has enhanced the beauty and safety of the area. Amathus is one of the ancient city Kingdoms of Cyprus where according to legend, Theseus left the pregnant Ariadne to be taken care of, after his battle with the Minotaur.
